Welcome Message

As Chairman of the ITS Asia-Pacific Broad of Director for 2005-6, and the President of ITS Hong Kong, I am most delighted to welcome you all to the coming 8th Asia Pacific ITS Forum & Exhibition, and to Hong Kong – the Asia’s world city.

This annual event, which is the most important ITS gatherings in the Asia Pacific region, had been successfully held in a number of major Asia-Pacific cities since 1996.  It is our greatest pleasure to host the coming event in 2006 in Hong Kong, on behalf of ITS Asia-Pacific.

During the recent past years, with the development of our new world-acclaimed Hong Kong International Airport, we have seen a number of massive transportation/infrastructure projects implemented here which featured ITS.  Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated city in the world and contributions of ITS to our society, economy and lifestyle have been proven.  We have not stopped since then and are still planning for further developments here with ITS featuring as well.

Besides demonstrating Hong Kong’s progress and success in ITS, the event will offer an excellent occasion for members from different cities of the world to exchange their experience and learn from each others, for the benefits of enhancing Asia Pacific and also the world. Our committees have been diligently working to bring you a valuable event to experience, that will showcase the progress and success of ITS implementations in the Asia-Pacific region.

We encourage all professionals and other interested persons from around the globe to join us in Hong Kong, to participate in this major international event through paper submission, contribution, exhibition and participation/attendance.  We look forward to another success of this key ITS event of Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong.  See you all.

Jason Wong

Chairman, Broad of Director, ITS Asia-Pacific

& President of ITS Hong Kong

I welcome you all to the 8th Asia – Pacific ITS Forum & Exhibition 2006 and to Hong Kong.

During the last decade, we have seen lots of effort spent on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for the sake of the environment and logistics developments in this Asia Pacific Region ¾ giving rise to the Theme of ITSAP 2006 ¾ Sustainable ITS Development in Environment and Logistics.  In addition, more and more governmental bodies, conglomerate corporations are paying intensive attentions to the use of ITS systems in building extensive networks of roads, bridges, railways, airports and to the manufacturing of intelligent vehicles to facilitate fleet management and logistics.

In the recent development of ITS systems, the environmental dimension is always not forgotten so as to make a balanced interactive world of ITS systems, logistics movement and sustainable environment, though in some cases the process may bring about cultural differences and monetary costs.  This is in particular the case in this Region including Hong Kong, Southern China, and Pan Pearl River Delta.  I am sure that this is a Forum where we can share our experience in ITS developments both in this Region and overseas.

Today, advanced technologies are applied in ITS developments, which include electronics, telecommunications, sensing, construction, transportation and etc just to name a few as no one knows where the boundary is.  Let’s take this opportunity to explore the use of advanced technologies.  This is an opportunity for us to foster new ideas and concepts in ITS so as to make a better world of tomorrow for us to live, enjoy and serve.

Once more, welcome to Hong Kong and I hope your stay here will be enjoyable and memorable.

Melvyn Wong

Chairman, Organizing Committee,

ITSAP 2006
